Abigail Hammond

Costume Designer

Abigail’s dance background includes the experimental dance at Dartington College of Art in the 1970’s and she went on to study Dance Theatre at the Laban Centre, London, specialising in costume design. Over the past 30 years she has created costumes for over 130 choreographic works. While Course Leader in Costume Design at Wimbledon College of Art, (2007-2017) Abigail developed a field of research in the uniqueness of costume design in contemporary dance. Abigail’s designs for the Sadler’s Wells commission, RIOT Offspring, were chosen to be part of the UK entry to the International Theatre Design Exhibition, the Prague Quadrennial in 2016.

Selected credits include: National Youth Dance Company (13 years), Tavaziva Dance (6 years), Vanessa Ford Productions, The Hobbit (West End 2001), Jasmin Vardimon Company: 7734, Freedom, in-between, Park, Maze, Pinocchio and Medusa.

Teaching: Wimbledon College of Art, Royal Academy of Dance, London College of Fashion, Laban, Croydon College. Community Course Projects: National Theatre, English Heritage, English National Ballet, Barbican, V&A and Sadler’s Wells.

Abigail is currently studying MA Designer Maker at Camberwell College of Arts.
